As the founder of Board Excellence, Kieran has worked extensively with boards across the UK, Ireland and internationally in a wide range of sectors and scale of organisations. He has over 20 years’ experience serving on boards as a CEO, executive director, non-executive director and board chair. He is currently the board chair of a number of internationally-focused companies across a number of industry sectors.
Kieran is an internationally-recognised thought leader in the area of board dynamics, effectiveness, performance and corporate governance. He is a regular contributor to leading international board publications and has developed ground-breaking new approaches to optimising the “people equation of the board”, the partnership between executive and non-executive board members and enabling the board to excel as a high-performing team.
Paul is an expert in Corporate Governance, Reporting and Audit. Whilst at the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), he was the Executive Director responsible for the development of the 2018 UK Corporate Governance Code, The Wates Principles of Corporate Governance for Large Private Companies and the 2020 UK Stewardship Code. He has spoken regularly on such matters at UK and international conferences, and to Government working parties and Select Committees.
Paul is an experienced board chair and has been an executive and non-
executive director of a number of public, private and not for profit organisations. Paul is a chartered accountant and former KPMG partner and adviser auditor to many public and private companies across a range of industry sectors.
David is an experienced board chair, director and senior executive with leadership experience across a diverse range of business, governance and stakeholder-facing activities in the financial services sector.
He has been Non-Executive Chair and Director of the Board of Trustees of a number of financial services industry and professional bodies’ defined benefit and defined contribution pension schemes and a Non-Executive Director of a range of company Boards.
He is an experienced board and governance professional having served as Group Company Secretary of an international, publicly-listed company regulated in a number of jurisdictions, a role in which he was a valued adviser to Chairs, CEOs, Directors and Executives on promoting and sustaining the robustness and efficacy of governance and board arrangements and practices.
Eileen is a practicing non-executive director, an experienced executive and management consultant and provides corporate finance, mergers, acquisitions and company re-structuring support to executive and board teams in companies across multiple industry sectors.
She is an External Business advisor to the Department of Economics in University College Cork, Ireland for their MSc Economics of Business Practice programme.
Pat is an experienced board chair and executive with significant international experience. He is the former CEO and current non-executive deputy chair – international development of the PM Group, a global engineering and project management company with over 2,000 employees operating in over 30 countries.
He has a distinguished board chair track record in Ireland and is currently chair of a number of internationally-focused companies across a variety of industry sectors.
Gerard O’Donovan is Head of the Faculty of Business and Humanities in Cork Institute of Technology where he is responsible for the strategic direction, people management and operation of the Faculty. During his 14 years at CIT he has held a number of senior positions including Head of School of Business, Head of the Department of Accounting & Information Systems and founder of the Hincks Centre for Entrepreneurship Excellence. Prior to academia, his industry experience includes work in retail, human resources, IT and consultancy roles in Ireland and the USA. He holds a BComm (Hons) from University College Cork and an MBA from St. Joseph’s University, USA. Gerard serves on a number of advisory and foundation boards.
Joe O’Keeffe is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development. Joe has deep board experience having served on a number of corporate boards and as Chairman of VC-backed companies including Comnitel [acquired by IBM in 2007] and LeT Systems [acquired by Trimble in 2010]. In 2002 he completed research on the mentoring of entrepreneurs, leading to a University of Hull MEd Degree. Joe is a graduate of the General Electric (USA) Management Program. Experience includes General Manager & M.D. with leading companies, incl. Emerson Electric, AT&T and Apple (in Ireland & USA). He joined Apple Computer with responsibility for European manufacturing. He subsequently moved to the USA as Director of Operations in charge of over 1,000 employees.
John McCarthy is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland specialising in corporate finance and business planning. He has a Masters in Political Science from UCC that focused on the role of elite behaviour in society. John has many decades of experience engaging with and as a member of various boards of directors in executive and non-executive director roles and also as chairman in the not for profit sector. John spent 30 years with the accountancy firm that became Ernst & Young before joining the management team of SWS Group as a Director in the SWS Corporate Services Division. He has deep experience of the workings of boards and the importance of corporate governance to board excellence. Currently he is a non-executive director in a number of Irish and international companies.
Siobhán Finn is Project Director with the Cork Innovates Partnership since 2012. Siobhán is responsible for leading and managing a partnership of 12 organisations who collaborate under the mantle of Cork Innovates to drive the economic reputation and perception of Cork as the optimum location in Ireland for SME innovation and entrepreneurship. Siobhán has over 15 years of experience working across the public and private sector with particular focus on leading and managing multiple-stakeholder consortia. Siobhán served as a member of the Advisory Group for Small Business at the Department of Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation (DJEI) from 2014 to 2016. In 2015, Siobhán was nominated by DJEI as City Region Coordinator for The Startup Gathering and in 2016 Siobhán secured the Startup Nations Summit for Cork, a first for Europe. Siobhán also owned and directed her own business in the indigenous service sector for close to 10 years. Siobhán holds an MSc in Management Practice from Trinity College Dublin, focusing on change management through action-learning within a first generation family-owned and managed business. Siobhán is a graduate of the Marketing Institute of Ireland and also holds a Diploma in Business Innovation Development from DIT.
